TLC Services                         

TLC fulfills its mission by offering early education services that focus on the whole child and family, with specific focus on an individual child’s developmental goals and each family’s goals and needs.  Tacoma Learning Center’s services include developmentally appropriate encouragement and education in all five areas of child development: cognition, communication, fine and gross motor skills, adaptive functioning and social-emotional development. 

 

The philosophy of TLC centers on the belief that parents are a child’s first and best teachers; therefore, all services focus on parent education, training and support. 

 

Tacoma Learning Center offers the following services to children and their families:

Early education services in the child’s home, child care center, community settings or in TLC’s classrooms by certified early education teachers.

 

Developmental Evaluation and assessment.

 

Therapeutic consultations by Occupational and Speech Therapists; Therapeutic, cooperative play groups.

 

Parent education and support to help parents assist their child in meeting his/her individual developmental goals.

 

Field trips, family gatherings and periodic family respite services.

 

Affiliated with Bates Home and Family Life as a Cooperative Preschool; offer Bates Credit for Parents who participate.

 

Transition Support.

 

 TLC continuously improves and adapts its programs to keep up with the best practices to serve children with special needs.

 

Home based services

Tacoma Learning Center offers Home-Based services, where teachers visit the family’s home and offer comprehensive child development services, including: 

 

Parent Education related to how parents can meet their child’s Individual Family Service Plan (I.F.S.P.) through modeling strategies.

 

Consultation with parents on how to adapt home environments and routines to meet each child’s developmental goals.

 

Structured play activities designed to help each child reach his/her developmental goals.

 

Parent Support with raising a child with special needs.

 

Occupational and Speech therapy consultation, as needed.

 

* TLC also offers community setting visits (day care, foster care, etc.) as needed
