Overcoming adversity & depression

A lifetime of difficulties had finally caught up with Lucy when she came to HopeSparks. She lost her husband and infant daughter many years earlier in a car accident. Her mother had recently passed away after a battle with cancer. And Lucy had just been diagnosed with cancer.

Lucy was depressed. Combined with her cancer treatment, she became morbidly obese and felt like she didn't have the energy or motivation to get out of bed. Somehow, Lucy gathered the strength and courage to make a counseling appointment. Her therapist quickly diagnosed the factors contributing to Lucy's problems. Over time, Lucy and her therapist worked on grieving and acceptance. But, each day Lucy was able to increase her motivation to take care of herself and she noticed that she felt better and better about life.

With HopeSparks' help, Lucy conquered her depression. She lost more than 100lbs and her health has continued to improve. So have Lucy's relationships with people she cares about. She's even decided to get involved in early childhood education.
